The Awards of “HydroMediT 2018” are announced
Recently the Organizing Committee announced the Persons and Bodies to be awarded at the 3rd International Congress on Applied Ichthyology & Aquatic Environment “HydroMediT 2018”.
We remind you that the Congress will be held in Volos from November 8th to November 11th, 2018; this year’s theme is “Blue Biotechnology in Aquatic Living Resources”, and in addition to the authors who will present the results of their work, eight (8) distinguished scientists are invited to present the new scientific and technological trends in the different sessions, while there will be special sessions about the Greek Operational Program for Fisheries, nutrition, marine protected areas, food processing, etc.
During the Official Opening Day the organizers – continuously aiming at supporting and promoting the academic and professional excellence – will honor for their invaluable offer an Academic, a Professional, and a Body. In particular, the Congress Awards this year will be awarded as follows:
Academic: Dr. Maria Alexis, with a long-term research experience in aquaculture.
Professional: Dr. Panos Varvarigos, with a long-term offer of fish pathological services.
Body: BIOMAR Hellenic SA, a dynamic fish feed producing company, with a factory in Volos, while the prize will be received by its Managing Director Panos Lagos.
Let us stress, with regard to the registration of delegates that reduced prices exist until 31st of October 2018, having a special price of 50 euros, instead of 80 euros of the normal on-site registration. For students and companies the price remains regardless at an affordable rate (20 euros, and 150 euros respectively), with the amount for companies excluding VAT 24%, but giving access to the Congress for 2 people.
During the registration, the delegates have the option to choose a room at our partner hotels at a special price, their participation in the Gala Dinner, and the excursion (Sunday 11/11, Trikeri).
The official language of the conference is English, there will be presented classic oral presentations and novel E-posters, while full Congress proceedings will be available to delegates on arrival (in digital form, or on the Congress site).

Dr Maria Alexis, was the head of the Fish Nutrition and Pathology Laboratory of HCMR. Her research was focused on nutrition of Mediterranean species with main emphasis on the use of alternative raw materials in fish feeds and their effects on fish performance, health and quality.
She has coordinated and/or participated in many National and European research projects in close collaboration with the Fish Feed Industry, Universities and Research Institutes as well as in infrastructure projects to develop and keep updated the laboratory facilities. She has also supervised many PhD works performed in the laboratory.
Her work has been published in peer reviewed International journals and presented in National and International Conferences. She had an active role in the European Aquaculture Research and Innovation Platform, EATIP, as a coordinator of the working group on “Sustainable Aquafeeds”, planning the required research and innovation initiatives for developing future European Aquaculture.

Worked for 8 years in the pharmaceutical sector (1987 – 1995) in international companies as Sales Executive and Sales Manager in Greece.
Working in the aquaculture sector for 22 years (since 1996) in BioMar Hellenic as Managing Director and Commercial Manager.

BioMar has a history of 55 years of dedication to the sustainable development of aquaculture worldwide. It is one of the leading international aquafeed producers with 15 factories in 12 countries. Dr Panagiotis (Panos) Varvarigos was born in 1960 and currently lives in Athens, Greece. He is a veterinary surgeon, qualified from the University of Thessaloniki, Greece, holds a M.Sc. degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of London, England and a Ph.D. degree in Fish Farm Management from the University of Stirling, Scotland. From 1987 to 1991, he worked in teaching and research in UK Universities (Stirling, York and Cambridge) and was management consultant to aquaculture businesses in England and Scotland. Since 1992 is engaged in fish health management consultancy, disease diagnosis and prevention in Greece and abroad (Albania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, France, Italy, Mauritius, Spain, Turkey, UAEmirates, UK). His publications, lectures and on-site training relate to the economics of agriculture, fish farm management and fish disease control.
